Upgrade Previous Version Of Windows To Windows 8

Windows 8 has to be one of the most bold and dynamic moves made by Microsoft as it ushers into the post PC era. The new Windows 8 Operating System has received mixed response in the market, some claiming it as the next killer design and transformed Operating System, while others disliking its prompt disruptive change. So for many of you who would be converting into Windows 8 users very soon here is the complete guide to upgrade your previous edition of Windows to Windows 8 easily. This guide can be applied while upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 8, Windows Vista to Windows 8 or Windows 7 to Windows 8. The beauty of this step by step procedure is that it will retain all your files and settings including the programs you’re currently using. There are some software which are known to cause problem while upgrading to Windows 8 but most of the software will work like charm. If you want the complete list of programs that work with Windows 8, you may head on to Windows 8 compatibility website.

According to BetaNews, the users who are upgrading to Windows 8 from previous versions of Windows i.e, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 need to consider few points:

  1. Is it possible to install the upgrade on a PC without operating system?
  2. Are clean installations an option during the upgrade process?
  3. Can users upgrade from public Windows 8 releases that Microsoft has made available?

The answers go as follows:

  1. If you don’t have an Operating System, you can’t install an upgrade license of Windows 8.
  2. Yes you can format the current OS drive and clean install Windows 8 and still use the upgrade license. But keep in mind that the Windows 8 installer should format the drive.
  3. Windows 8 Release Preview can be upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. Windows 8 Developer Preview and Windows 8 Consumer Preview can not be upgraded.

You may also want to go through extensive FAQs by CNET about upgrading to Windows 8. This will clear a lot of confusion. Now let’s move on to the actual upgrade process. We will go step by step and upgrade to Windows 8.

The Upgrade Process:

  1. If you don’t have the Windows 8 product key, you can easily go to Windows.com and purchase an upgrade to Windows 8. You may read this complete guide on how to purchase Windows 8 for cheap.
  2. The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will guide you through the next process intuitively without any problem. The Windows 8 advisor will tell you about your PC hardware compatibility with Windows 8 and software configurations along with compatibility issue listings. Looking at the compatibility report, you may decide whether to upgrade to Windows 8 or not. Previously you could download the Windows 8 Upgrade Advisor directly from Microsoft’s website, but since August Microsoft has made one simple rule for all to be Windows 8 users.
The user has to burn the DVD using the ISO or mount he ISO and then just like auto play the Upgrade Advisory would start.

  3. If the Windows 8 upgrade 8 advisor passes the test successfully for your PC, then it would be asking you which files do you want to keep, giving you a range of options from nothing to windows settings, apps and folders. You may want to keep everything as you are upgrading from the previous version of Windows.

  4. After the selection of option above, the Windows 8 advisor will download a live copy of Windows 8 which would be downloaded from Microsoft hosted servers. What this does is prevents unauthorized code coming into your PC as this kind of upgrade is called Cloud Based Upgrade. These upgrades are more genuine in their MD5 hash checks (checks for changes made in upgrade/downloaded upgrade files.) so that eventually the end user has a much more robust and reliable system on hand.

The good thing about the all new Windows 8 upgrade advisor is that, it has a built-in download manager that allows you to pause and continue your download at any time as well as a check to ensure your download completes successfully.

Installation:

One of the great things about the Windows 8 installation is that it is very much intuitive and robust in its nature, hence there are 99% chances that you wont be seeing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death of Installation anymore.

  1. After the download is complete, the Windows 8 upgrade advisor asks your preference of weather to Install the upgrade right now, Save it on a media such as a DVD or save it on your desktop for later use.

  2. If you are selecting the media option from above, now for many of you who like to use ISOs would be getting a smirk on their faces as now Windows allows you to save the installation as a bootable ISO or save it on your USB stick.

But for those of you who don't want to spend time burning a DVD, Microsoft allows you to give them $15 to ship you DVD that contains the installation media of your Windows 8 version.

Have you installed Windows 8 on your computers? How is the feeling of using Windows 8?

Oh, please do not get me wrong. This new section is not about computers, electronics or any engineering stuff, but rather I am currently constructing a new corpus based on Spectrum, the monthly publication from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers USA, from July 2007 to date. Having been a member for over 20 years since 1992, I am always fascinated by some of the terms scientists use when they talk about or envision their new inventions or methodologies. How many of them eventually come into practice? Could there be some insights we could possibly derive, from the linguistics perspective?
